DALLAS, TEXAS (JULY 24, 2009) – The Dallas Business Journal has chosen Charlie Calise, Chief Executive Officer of ©alise and Sedei, as the subject of “Enterprise Zone,” a feature which explores how the owners of North Texas-based small- and medium-sized businesses were able to conquer the challenges of building a successful organization.
In the article, he discusses the struggles he and his business partner Don Sedei initially encountered, beginning with their decision to incorporate ©alise and Sedei in 2002, in the midst of the post-9/11 recession and the collapse of Enron and WorldCom. Despite the bleak economic landscape at the time, ©alise and Sedei was armed with a vision: to “turn smart ideas into profitable growth” for its clients. Charlie Calise believes this mindset has helped their business grow tremendously over the years.
The similarities of the obstacles business owners faced in 2001 with those faced in 2009 are striking. As early as February 2008, consumer confidence was notably lower than during the 2001 recession. In addition, the most recent figures for advertising spending indicate a 1.6 percent decline through June 2008, partially due to the country’s largest advertisers’ budget reductions. Further, industry experts anticipate a decrease of 5 to 8 percent in advertising spending in 2009. Despite these circumstances, Charlie explains that the motivation that drove ©alise and Sedei to prosper in 2001 remains strong even today. “Understanding the client’s customer is a priority in order to create smart advertising campaigns.”
Charlie was selected for the article because of his success as an entrepreneur and because he can apply what he learned from the recession in 2001-2002 to today to facilitate the agency’s continued success.
